TWINNING VISIT TO MARQUETTE 10-13 APRIL 2025

These comments were collected from the 5 girls and 2 boys who took part in the trip – they were asked for best and worst parts:

Meredith - The best things were the dancing and singing at the soirée, hanging out with my French friends and going climbing with my family on Saturday.  Swimming at the freezing cold beach … no “worst” things!

Marith - The best part – meeting all the young people and dancing, learning new dances at the soirée.  Swimming in the sea even if it was COLD.  The food was great too, no “worst” bit!

Shona - The best part was the party on Saturday night when everyone was dancing and the French, German and English people could all have fun and communicate despite the language barrier, we shared funny stories and laughed and had a great time.  The only thing I didn’t enjoy was how cold it was in the sea but it was still fun.

Lydia - I really enjoyed the trip it was amazing.  The party and the beach were very fun.  I loved spending time with the family and with everyone at the party.  The worst part was it went too quickly.

Poppy - For me the best part of the trip was the day out with my family to the Charles de Gaulle museum and climbing to the top of the tower to see Paris clearly!  I really enjoyed just chatting to them because Lydéric is very, very knowledgeable about Lille and its history, which I find really interesting and appreciate.  The worst part was that it ended too soon!

Tom – It was a very easy journey organised by Ray and having all the tickets sorted and ready to go.  My favourite part was spending time with my French friends like Kelyan, Léna and Lilou, especially at the party on Saturday.  The free day in Lille with my host family was very fun with a tour of the city.  My family was very welcoming and very kind to me.  The worst parts were performed by my English “friends”, making a sandwich creation of my head while I went to sleep at the party and burying me in sand at the beach.  It was still in my hair after two showers.

James – Transport was perfectly planned and allowed for delays on Eurostar return journey which meant that we caught the designated King’s X to Grantham and were not delayed.  There were activities where we were all together but also plenty of time to be with our host families to see normal life.  Everyone, old and young, were so friendly and welcoming, despite the language barrier.  It’s easy to make new friends.  It’s good for the future and twinning should be for everyone, we had so much fun.

Weaknesses - the sea is very cold.  I never got a croissant although the bread was very nice.

Jan – These young people were amazing!  Their behaviour was impeccable, their appreciation was manifest and they were such good fun to be with!  It is to be hoped that more students from our Joint Sixth Form will join us “oldies” to enjoy experiences and friendships into Europe and beyond.
